An overview of our weekly schedule
Our weekly schedule has changed over the years, but for the past several years we have gotten into a rhythm that is working well for us. This is just an overview of how we get through our days now. In the past, I have tried to keep a strict time schedule, but I rarely keep to it exactly. I do use a timer for the lessons, but some days there are interesting videos to watch that accompany the readings or melt downs happen or we notice a new bird at the bird feeder. If we don’t get everything done before lunch, we take a break and finish it after or figure out what can wait til the next day or week. It relieves my stress to allow this flexibility.
Our 2022-23 schedule (Year 1 and Year 4)
- 6:30 – I am up (hopefully!) getting ready for the day.
- 7:00 – I wake up the boys who get themselves breakfast and ready for the day. This is my quiet time for reading.
- 8:00 (this is flexible, sometimes it is 8:30 depending on online therapy sessions) – We start Together Time which takes about an hour, sometimes less. I give about 1/2 hour break before starting school work.
- 9:30 – start school. At this time I spend the first hour working with the Em while M works on his independent work.
- 10:30 – I switch and work with M while Em does his independent work
- About 11:30 or noon – lunch time.
- After lunch: We have handicrafts, drawing, nature journaling, nature walks, chores, and other extra curricular activities scheduled. But even with that, a lot of the afternoon is free time. The boys play and I spend a couple of minutes near the end of the week filling in next week’s schedule including anything that needs to be updated to accommodate what we did or didn’t do this week. I also use this time for pre-reading the next week’s history lessons and gathering any maps or pictures we’ll need.
- 6:00 – Daddy is home and we eat dinner and do our evening chores. During special seasons of the year, we include readings and/or candle lightings with dinner. Any time left here is “playtime with Daddy” and Mama gets a break!
- 7:30 – Vespers. Every evening we read the Bible, sing hymns, and pray. The readings change with the liturgical year, such as special Advent, 12 Days of Christmas, and Lent readings. During Ordinary Time we read through the assigned Old Testament Bible readings in M’s AO schedule.
- 7:45 to 8:00 – Get ready for bed. This includes story time with Daddy. Daddy reads the free reads or sometimes one of the literature selections from the AO schedule.
- 8:30 to 8:45 – lights out.
